New York Anime Fest: High Five

September 21st, 2009

With New York Anime Fest this weekend, I’m going to be cranking out a couple new sticker/button designs for sale.  I’ll post each on Artystic, with each passing day. Like the Previous Sticker Pack, I aim to have 3 Large stickers, one Sanshee Logo, and one fairy sticker. What game character will she be dressed as this time! Oooh suspenseful. Either way, allow me to present you the first of the large stickers. “High Five”

It may need a little tweaking as far as shading and line goes. But I’m happy with the concept.

The Beatles Rock!

September 13th, 2009

blogcomic_007_micstand

So for those of you who paid 250 dollars for your Beatles: Rock Band super awesome special edition pack, you undoubtedly noticed the mic stand next to your Hofner Bass controller. I set mine up and placed it in the corner next to my tv, figuring I could bring it out when friends came to visit, y’know, for the new harmonization feature. But after watching polygon Paul McCartney enough times, I thought “Hey, I bet I could sing and play bass at the same time too”

Satisfied with expert guitar and expert vocals, I moved on to doing both at once. I’m not sure why, but its pretty fun, y’know, excluding the watching two things at once part. I’m sure this just makes me a bigger nerd, but hey, not going to let a perfectly good mic stand go to waste, right?

Anyways, The Beatles: Rock Band, is pretty fun. My only complaint is that the Beatles look a little stiff at times, but I suppose there’s only so much you can do. I will say, that there’re multiple songs where the art direction matches so spot-on with the music that it gives me goosebumps and warm fuzzies. The game really makes me want to learn more about The Beatles since I’m still sort of new to their music. Would I say that everyone should pay 250 for this game and its peripherals?  Yea, probably, Harmonix does good work and goes a long way to preserve the integrity of the music they work with, so if you like awesome guitar controllers, and broke your other drum set, the special edition is a good way to support an awesome company and keep my friend Tom in a job.

Other than that, Harmonix added a new feature where there’s a little 3, 2, 1 countdown after you un-pause a song. This is probably my favorite improvement in The Beatles: Rock Band.

Uhhhh what else to say? Oh I don’t know. Go buy The Beatles: Rock Band!

Art Museums are fun!!!!!!!!!

blogcomic_006_newyorkmet

I went to the Metropolitan Museum of Fine Art with my friend Sarah this Sunday. It was super fun, but super exhausting. I suppose I’ll write about the whole of it at some point, but I need to go running before work. But hey, at least there’s this long-ass comic, well at least the longest one I’ve ever done.

You Should Watch Clone High

September 3rd, 2009

jfk

So, my friend Christian and I hang out every couple of weeks. Mostly we get food, drink heavily, and then play Rock Band. For the last three visits, Christian has recommended I watch “Clone High” He’d explained to me the concept multiple times “Clones, Highschool, comedy”, but It’s like pulling teeth when someones recommends a show to me to watch. Needless to say, after his last visit he downloaded Clone High onto my computer, removing my excuse for not doing so. So one night, unable to be productive, I decided to give it a go, and lo and behold, it’s not that bad.

No, Clone High isn’t the greatest show ever, but beneath the miles of absurdity and parody, I still found myself mildly interested in the “drama” of the show, as well as laughing a few times. The basic concept is that way way back in the 1980’s a shadowy government council employed this mad scientist, Cinnamon J. Scudworth, to clone famous historical figures in order to raise a super army, and now they’re all in high school. JFK is a womanizing jock, Cleopatra is the popular girl, Abe Lincoln is a lanky awkward dork, etc etc.

My only complaint with the show is trying to do too much by trying to parody history and teen dramas. Problem is, most of the jokes revolve around the teen drama element to the point that I catch myself forgetting that the characters are supposed to be based off historical figures. The show is just as fun, but if you’re going to make history your main selling point, then might want to pursue it a little further. There are enough history jokes to make a nerd like me chuckle, though. I loved when Ghandi told Catherine the Great to get off her high horse.

Apparently the guy who created Clone High, created Scrubs as well, and there’s actually a couple of characters and voices you’ll find familiar. But I won’t spoil it. What’s important to know is that if you like Scrubs, you should watch this. I found a youtube clip of the first episode for you to watch right now after reading this. You should watch it right away!

Oh and also, allow me to leave you with this for inspiration:

Rainy Day Plan

August 30th, 2009

rainydaystuckatwork

I was truly looking forward to this weekend, my friends are returning to college, the heat is subsiding, and there was a ‘twang’ of autumn in the air. I played Blazblue for the first time and there were promises of lake houses and beach houses galore. Then, I realized I had work on Saturday and Sunday. I figured, “hey, at least after work I can go sit outside under a tree and read or something” but then it rained. Apparently I should have paid attention to the news. Either way, I ended up working at the Gamestoop on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. On Saturday I’m pretty sure the AC broke because there was a heinous burning smell and on Sunday the assistant manager and I were roasting inside that Gamestop. Not my ideal weekend I suppose, but here’s hoping for a bright labor day weekend!

Hey, the Buttons didn’t kill me!

August 26th, 2009

artyblehIf I’m looking to get a steady following on Artystic.com, then I’m doing a poor job at it. Last week I left you with an announcement that team Sanshee would be making 4,000 buttons, and until now I can only assume you figured I died in some sort of catastrophic buttonlanche. Now I suppose this meant that Monday I was back to work making pretty pictures and writing about how awesome Game Unicon was so you could all hear, but I didn’t. It’s been pretty exhausting the last couple of days, but after a couple of Mountain Dews I’m feeling good enough to update.

I made a couple of graphics for the Sanshee storefront today, it’s wonderful to see things come together. Speaking of Sanshee, Game Unicon was indeed awesome. It was so exciting to see our button badges being worn all over the place. I’m not sure how Game Unicon is funded, but I certainly hope they covered their expenses so there can be another one!yellow lib

I have to say the highlight of the convention was my awesome yellow and aquamarine colored Sanshee liberty shirt.  Apparently all the ladies dig it. Models invited me to hang with them and Powerglove and I got to rock out with this one sketchy girl down at the concert tent.

I’ve got a bunch of things I want to do in the upcoming weeks. But right now I’m watching Deadwood. I’m enjoying it, but it’s pretty grim. Swearengen and Calamity Jane are my favorite characters. I enjoy the fact that the word ‘swear’ is in his name and he’s so incredibly quotable.  So here’s to hoping I don’t spend too much time watching whores and pimps in the wild west.

Game Unicorn

August 16th, 2009

Going to Game Unicon this weekend! It’s being hosted in Marlborough by Game Universe. It’s their first time doing this kind of a convention, but its unbelievable the amount of work they have invested in it. I’ve only been going to anime conventions, but this sounds like everything a gaming convention should be. Unfortunately, I don’t think enough people know about it. So go out there and tell EVERYONE!   Here’s just a few of the things they’ll have there:gameunicorn

Anyways, we’re sponsoring the badges for the event, so we’re going to be pressing around 4,000 buttons over the next couple days. There won’t be much in the way of new merchandise due to 4,000

buttons and a lack of inspiration on my part this week, but you should come down some gaming, and rocking out. And, you know there’s no better place to rock out than at our table.

There you have it. If you can read this, I expect you to get on facebook, or twitter, or whatever the hell you do, and make sure everyone you’ve ever met is going to this convention. Go out and stop strangers on the street, tell them that it’s going down at Gameunicon. DO IT!
